Stand Up for Learning

Help me give my students a stand up desk so they will have the opportunity to stand up while working.

My Students

I work with seventh and eighth grade, special education, language arts students. They ask lots of questions and are working to improve their reading abilities, so they can become successful adults. The school has a diverse population of approximately twelve hundred middle school students.

The students have varying backgrounds and learning abilities, but they work as a team to learn and teach each other in the classroom.

Everyone is treated fairly and without prejudice. Each and every one of the students want to succeed, as well as help their peers to do so as well.

My Project

I would like to provide a stand up desk in my classroom. This will allow the students who need to stand or move around during class work time will be able to do so while still learning and being engaged in the lessons and activities.

Flexible seating allows students to have some degree of choice and control over their environment.

In addition to choice, a stand up desk adds a health benefit and keeps them moving, which increases blood flow. This helps students be more alert and focused. I have many students with accommodations that require the need for flexibility. I strive to make my classroom a safe place and a place where students want to come and LEARN.
