My students need standing desks to allow them a break to get comfortable and move their bodies so they can reengage in the day’s lesson without distracting others.
A typical day in my classroom involves a rich curriculum incorporated with purposeful movement along with all students sitting on physio balls. Jean Blades says, "Physical activity grows brain cells, and that cerebellum research tells us, "What makes us move, makes us think."
My school is fortunate to have a very health and fitness-minded staff.
Students see many examples of what a healthy lifestyle entails every day in the actions of the staff. It makes sense, then, to give them the tools to help them emulate the healthy lessons they see on a daily basis. In 5th grade, all students currently have physio balls. Now it's time to incorporate more! Standing desks would inspire them to find small ways to be more active on a daily basis. Being more active would lead to more energy for learning. Healthy bodies = healthy minds. Adding these stand up desks to my classroom will get the students energized and pumped up about their education.
My Project
It is proven that movement improves learning. Standing desks would allow students a break to get comfortable and move their bodies so they can reengage in the day’s lesson without distracting others around them. Movement will help the brain stay on task. Fatigue affects your thinking and the ability to retain information. Adding these stand up desks to my classroom will get the students energized and pumped up about their education which will in turn enhance performance and get the students excited about their education.
These stand up desks will be a great addition to the classroom. When students are uncomfortable, it can be hard to focus on anything else. Many times, students tend to cause distractions in class because they physically cannot sit still for the full class period in a desk. It will help improve my student's attention span and their ability to retain the information presented. What a great benefit for these students!
Students need the opportunity to move and get their creativity flowing.
Standing desks would be a wonderful and modern solution to address the needs of my learners. They would improve the health and fitness of my students by allowing them to be more active, which in turn would help improve their brain function in class to tackle the rigorous demands of today’s learning environment.
