My Students

As the music teacher of the only non-audition based music school in New York City, I strive to give my students every opportunity. Our school was opened less than 15 years ago with the mission to give all students, regardless of their prior knowledge, an opportunity to learn and grow in the arts.

Over 95% of the students are of black or Hispanic heritage, and over 80% qualify for free or reduced-priced lunch.

Although many of our students' math and reading skills fall below grade level, they are intelligent, passionate, and all performers at heart.

My Project

In a world of "AP for All" I thought it would also be important to have "Instruments for all!" This years advanced curriculum allows student choice to take center stage as students choose the instrument they want to focus on over the course of the semester.

Without desks as an option, these piano stands will allow more students to be able to choose piano, and still allow enough space in the room for other instruments to be used.

The collapsable stand will also be able to be stored easily on the side of the room so other courses like chorus and drama can take place in the same room during other times. The Manhasset Stand Tool will allow us to repair the 25 music stands that are so wobbly they live on the stand rack for fear of them falling over, and the drum key will allow us to adjust the drum set for each user. Please help our program find success by making our current resources more effective!
