My Students
Our students want to L(listen) E(empower) A(accept) D(defend) Others in the Right Direction...to Stand Up, Not Stand By when they encounter bullying! They want to put an end to bullying on line and on campus!
The Human Relations Council (HRC) is a a student led organization of forty high school students who organize yearly campaigns that serve as a catalyst for positive change and promote unity across their Middle and High School campus.
Last year, the HRC was asked to participate in a panel discussion following a screening of Bully, hosted by a local film festival. The students were very touched by the film and thought it was life changing! They want to give every student, teacher and administrator at their school the opportunity to watch the film, in hopes to create a more inclusive, empathetic and understanding climate on campus. The HRC students are leading a campaign this year titled Stand Up Don't Stand By and are hoping to kick off their campaign with a screening of the Bully film. They have year long activities planned as a follow up to the film.
My Project
The resources provided for the screening of the Bully film at a local theater will give every interested student, administrator and teacher at our school the opportunity to watch the film, free of charge. They also will include school board members and our school district superintendent. The goal is to inspire our entire community to Stand Up and Not Stand By when they encounter bullying! The HRC is planning a year long campaign to provide our students, teachers, parents and administrators with the tools they need to STOP bullying!
The Bully film screening will be a powerful catalyst to kick off our Stand Up Don't Stand By campaign.
We need to get everyones' attention and then provide them with the support and tools to Stop on line and on campus bullying!
This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
