Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

One hundred percent of my learners receive free breakfast and lunch through the Community Eligible Provision (CEP) through the National School Lunch and School Breakfast Programs. In addition, many of my learners receive services that help to provide necessary supports in myriad ways.

Unfortunately, we are a district with little to no extra funding left to supply the needed classroom changes due to COVID.

Prior to this pandemic, my learners were involved in flexible grouping and able to move about the classroom; however, the current expectation is that students sit for long periods of time and focus on a task where they work independently on a Chromebook. My students need to be able to stand, sway, and get a break from the cruel, monotony of the hard chair that they are expected to sit on for hours.

My Project

Providing a place where students can take a break from sitting all day in a designated seat is essential. With stand up desks and floor mat options, students will be able to get the blood moving, which, in turn, will allow them to be more engaged from a much-needed standing position.

Our learners are currently stuck inside, sitting at home, and not active like they used to be.

We need to change the school classroom setting so that they are not doing more sitting while they are in school. I believe that stand up desks will be a positive and much-needed modification to the outdated norms of education.
