My students need rolls of canvas, different colored acrylic paints, and glow in the dark paint to create the scenery for a huge production of a classic Broadway play.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our students love to sing and dance everyday. we want that enthusiasm to be showcased to our community. So we are putting on a huge show, Broadway style!
Our school is a Title 1 school.
We are located next to Government housing. Over 85% of our children receive some kind of assistance. Our school is a Magnet school with a focus on Museum and Arts education. We have a wide range of ethnicities represented in our school. We celebrate them all.
My Project
We have chosen to put on a classic Broadway show to help showcase our talents. We want to involve everyone in all aspects of creating a large production. We have chosen a show that not only has a big cast but lots of scenery. We are requesting the material we need to create huge colorful scenery that will stand out and be able to be seen all the way at the back of our auditorium. We want the students to be able to have enough materials to create a large sky, evening backdrop, and more. They will learn how to share materials, how to think about the audience, and how scenery affects a production. The children will also learn what it takes to put together such an endeavor.
This project has wide reaching implications.
It will give the children a sense of pride and ownership in this production by contributing to not only the script and production but to the beautiful scenery. The production can and will appeal to our vastly different cultures. It will provide a wonderful lasting memory for all students involved. We have all had those memories that we relish!
