Stage Lighting As A Form Of Art

Help me give my students an opportunity to learn how stage lighting as a form of art, by donating toward 16 U'King LED Par Lights.

My Project

Currently, my students are using fluorescent lighting fixtures that require the use of plastic gels to change the color of the lights projected on stage. Receiving this generous donation will give my students a unique opportunity to explore their creativity efficiently and more effectively by using modern LED lighting fixtures. Using fluorescent lighting fixtures and gels is very expensive because of the limited number of suppliers that make these fixtures. Also, manually changing plastic color gels in 1000-watt fluorescent fixtures can lead to accidental burn injuries. The LED fixtures I am requesting are not only more effective and efficient but are also safer for my teenage students to learn with.

My goal is to train my students on how to use color and light intensity effectively to convey mood, composition, form, and time of day—all principles of lighting design—during school hours and in our new afterschool tech club.

This will be done two to three times per week during class. They will have the opportunity to apply these new skills during various live performances held throughout the year.

Every student cannot be an athlete, but every student can learn tech production. The groups of students I teach want to be a part of something they can be proud of; our recap after a production is filled with laughter, funny jokes about the show, and new memories. They learn leadership qualities by coaching younger incoming students, they volunteer after school without me requesting assistance, and for the first time in some of their lives, they can honestly say that they are a part of a team.
