Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students love to read books either while they wait to transition to the next activity or when they just want a little brain break. My goal is to build a classroom library specifically designed for my incredible 11th and 12th grade students with autism and intellectual disabilities. Every student deserves access to books that reflect their interests, support their communication styles, and encourage lifelong learning. Having a variety of books in the classroom helps the students choose the one that is right for them.
Reading can be a powerful tool for self-expression, communication, and confidence-building.
A thoughtfully curated classroom library provides not only access to knowledge, but also a sense of belonging and empowerment. For students with autism and intellectual disabilities, having materials that meet them where they are — and celebrate who they are — can make all the difference.
