My Students
This year, education had embarked on a whole new journey. Teachers, students, and parents now find themselves in the uncharted and often times scary world of online remote learning. Terms such as synchronous, asynchronous, Schoology, and Clever leave students and parents in a cloud of confusion.
My students all come from a high poverty neighborhood and many have no exposure to cultures past their city block.
They want to be the best scholars they can, but there are times they don't have the necessary equipment or resources to enable them to do just that. My kids have spirit and creativity oozing out of their pores and I intend to help them cultivate it and allow it to bloom!
My Project
The resources for Google Classroom, Microsoft, and distance learning will also help me to adapt my face to face teaching into meaningful, engaging online content for my already anxious middle school students.
We are all facing unprecedented hurdles in setting up safe, stable learning environments for our scholars.
Teachers who once felt that their home wifi was adequate are now facing unstable connections due to the use of Zoom, Teams, or Google Hangouts. By requesting a hotspot for my remote learning classroom, I am enabling myself to keep a steady, concrete connection myself so unstable internet connections will not have the chance to derail our learning. As we work through our first nine weeks online, reliable connection to me as their teacher is paramount to helping them become comfortable and confident to work online.
In addition to the hotspot, I have requested additional digital learning resources to help me better utilize the learning management systems we have in our district, and going beyond simple multiple choice assignments and discussion boards. These materials will help me teach tech skills that allow my students to develop digital citizenship that will serve them in high school and beyond.
