My Students
Remember when you were a child and you had to go to the dentist? I bet you were scared! But your parents still made you get your teeth cleaned and cavities filled. After that, I'm sure you always brushed and flossed your teeth to ensure that the next dentist trip would be an easy one!
My students do not have such a luxury.
Many do not have access to proper dental care. Most do not even have the proper materials for preventative dental care! I am a teacher for a wonderful population of students who happen to come from economically challenged families. My school is located in a high poverty area and the majority of my students are Hispanic/Latino. My students try their very best to be successful. They put forth their best effort in the classroom. But unfortunately, many of them do not have the proper life essentials to care for themselves. With so much going on in their young lives, hygiene can often go unnoticed.
With your help, my students will be able to have healthy teeth and gums. As we adults know, something as simple as not brushing your teeth can lead to a lifetime of health problems. We have come to discover too that flossing is extremely important for overall health. It is theorized that flossing can even keep your heart healthy. My students will be able to have a chance at leading healthy lives.
My Project
I am requesting SmileMakers toothpaste, Youth Stage 2 Toothbrush Blanks, Scope mouthwash and SmileMakers floss. With these materials I will be able to teach them healthy habits that they can carry with them into adulthood. And hopefully, their next visit to the dentist won't be so scary.
By no fault of their own, my students cannot attain the life essentials they need for proper dental care.
