Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school has a school mascot of "Cougar Pride". All staff and students have great pride in our school both inside and out. In the summer of 2014, our school went through great amounts of physical changes which affected our beautiful school garden area.

Our students are a unique blend of curious, limited english language learners.

The majority of our community comes from low-income families with a single income. Our students, as well as parents, learn best with hands-on activities because english is an ongoing learned process. As we continue to overcome language barriers, our garden area is a universal area where many people can gather to wait for students, or converse with friends in any language. Our is a very large school with over 500 students who enjoy helping and working with each other. We are a proud group of people who benefit from working together as a strong community.

My Project

All of our requested materials for this project will be used to rebuild and enhance our new our garden. Many of our requested materials will be used to rebuild a new garden and strengthen what we used to have. Other materials will be utilized to strengthen students knowledge of plants and the Life Science Common Core Standards which are required of the state of California. The materials which have been requested in this project provide students with a unique learning experience both inside (root grow kit) and outside(soil, seeds, etc...) of the classroom. When students, as well as our community, are given the opportunity to come together to work on a common goal, most benefit in unmeasurable ways.

Donations for this particular project will have an impact on not only our classrooms, yet will bring a community of people together in a unique way.

Language is a large obstacle in our society today and any way we can provide ways to overcome this obstacle will benefit both our students, as well as our our community. A universal language is what we hope our new, rebuilt garden will provide !!!
