"Do we get to do that?!" is often a phrase heard in our classroom. The students in my classroom, everyday, are eager to learn and try new things. Outside of school they do not typically have many opportunities, as I work at a Title I school in which many students are a part of the free and reduced lunch program. My school district is in a small community, in east Texas, and our students do not always have easy access to experiences and opportunities like schools in a bigger city would.
My Project
My students are loving this time of year! The warmer weather and animals out and about have them excited about all that we are learning inside of the classroom. During this time of the year students begin to look forward to summer and as it draws closer they have a more difficult time focusing inside of the classroom. The skills we are studying right now were specifically chosen for this time of year with these behaviors in mind. We are working on time and life cycles and animals and bugs and continuing to read daily! The best way for these students to stay engaged is to be fully engaged with hands on materials that I am asking for in this project.
The clocks will be used to help students practice the visual of time to the hour and half house; the science kits will help to reinforce all that we have learned and seen in nature with flower parts and life cycles.
The books will continue to draw the student's interested into what we are learning about and what is going on during Spring time.
