Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I will be starting my fourth year teaching at this tremendous school. When I started, the school was transitioning from a traditional middle school to an arts academy. I teach instrumental music. Currently I teach four bands and two orchestras. We are a public school that is 4th through 8th grade. Students are focused and driven to excel in the arts as well as academics. Students begin their journey at an early age and develop their passion for the arts as they progress through the program.
My Project
Students need new and exciting repertoire to stay engaged and learning new concepts. The following pieces will help students learn important musical concepts that include: Intricate rhythms, different keys/tonal centers, various genres/styles, and have the opportunity to continue to work together on ensemble playing and techniques.
We are very thankful for our new jazz guitar that we were able to acquire through a generous grant.
Having the proper guitar strings will help our guitar players in jazz band have the correct tone and sound for the style of jazz they are performing.
These musical selections and the guitar strings will be a sure hit for our spring concerts. Thank you for your support!
