Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

This year I am teaching Advanced Placement, Honors, College Prep Biology, and Environmental Science. I am also advising the Eco Mindfulness and Garden Clubs. My students care about the environment, gardens, and campus beautification.

My biology students need preserved earthworms for their comparative anatomy unit.

We received preserved rats and grasshoppers from another project. Having the earthworms would complete our specimen series to learn about the diverse body systems among living organisms. We are in need of some classroom basics like notebooks, glue, highlighters and copy paper. They use these every day for their interactive science notebooks that hold all of their class notes and diagrams of cells, photosynthesis, and protein synthesis.

The white bags are for a project called Environmental Value Systems show and tell. They design bags that showcase their upbringing. One side shows what environmental issues are important to them. It's a great activity for students to get to know each other and understand their points of view.

The plant watering stakes, globes, and fishing weights are for our class plants so we can make sure they get enough water without always attending to them. My senior year lab assistant leaders have an idea to water all of the plants with stakes and only a few main reservoirs. I like their idea and ingenuity. Hopefully it works because we have about 40 plants in the classroom.

We need the Clorox wipes because they help clean the lab tables during the dissections. With the TPT gift cards I plan to purchase diagrams on the earthworm. There also great resources on guided notes during the body systems unit we can use.
