Spreading Knowledge with Technology

My students need a classroom Chromebook to engage in learning while allowing for access to a world beyond the classroom.

My Students

My students attend an inner city school whose student body is diverse, both academically and socioeconomically. My classes have high percentages of both English Language Learners and Special Education students.

As technology becomes more and more prevalent in education, the achievement gap will increase for those who lack access.

For many of my students, core classes pose difficulty because of their ongoing language acquisition. For many more, language is not the issue; they struggle instead with reading deficits, processing issues and lack of recall. Technology has programs that will help to reduce the existing deficits.

My Project

This Chromebook will allow our classroom computers to be managed and implemented in the classroom setting. This Chromebook will be will be used in various ways by my students and myself. Students will learn how to access various programs including grading programs, online books, online simulations, audio books, online translators and content specific videos and more.

Our students are, in fact, growing up in a highly technological society; part of my job is to help them navigate this new world.

I want students to utilize the internet in positive, enriching ways. This will allow them to take ownership of their own learning, whether it is in school or at their homes. Getting one-to-one devices in my classroom is the long-term goal, and this will go a long way to helping my students through this navigation.

Technology is becoming increasingly important in all subjects. These devices will not only help my students in their core classes, they will support their learning. This source of technology will allow the teacher to implement needed modifications and accommodations allowing all to learn with the needed supports.
