it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I'm excited to start the new year with my second grade class. To start off the new year on the right track I want to teach them about compassion with our new classroom family. My goal for this project is to help my students see the world through the eyes of another person.
The easel will be used during and after the read alouds about compassion.
We will write what compassion looks like and sounds like. As a class we will write examples of how we can show compassion inside our class and outside of it. We will also create a compassion classroom goal after each read aloud. I will also have my second graders form teams and have them illustrate examples, on the easel chart paper, of how they can show compassion like the characters in the book.
The books in this project are great examples of what compassion is and looks like. The books requested will help my students build empathy and compassion by seeing the stories of others.
The motivational posters and bulletin board set will be added to our classroom to motivate and encourage all students to show compassion and empathy to others. I will monitor and assess students understanding of compassion through our class discussions. I will also assess by seeing if as a class and individually they are meeting our compassion goals. To motivate them to meet our goals I will give stickers, bookmarks, and sensory toys.
I've met and worked with my future second graders and they all have a great desire to learn. These materials will help them learn about compassion and empathy for others, so they can make our world a better place.
