Spreading Aloha: Lei Day, Recognition Celebrations, and Kindness Initiatives

My Project
Our new after-school Aloha Club invites third, fourth, and fifth graders who are passionate about spreading kindness, appreciation, and positivity throughout our school. Through student-led, collaborative projects, the Aloha Club encourages students to embody the Aloha spirit while learning about Hawaiian culture and the value of giving. This club not only helps students develop a sense of community but also supports their academic growth and social-emotional development.
By engaging in these projects, students will strengthen teamwork, leadership, and problem-solving skills—all while learning how acts of kindness can positively impact others.
The Aloha Club will recognize and celebrate students and staff throughout the year.This includes gifting lei for special events, such as "Royal of the Month" recognitions (for students who demonstrate outstanding character) and staff appreciation days like Teacher Appreciation Day.
One of our major upcoming initiatives is preparing for Lei Day (also known as May Day), where we celebrate the tradition of giving and receiving lei, honor Hawaiian culture, and spread the Aloha spirit. This is a big undertaking, as we have over 700 students in grades Pre-K through 5th, and we aim to craft a handmade lei for every single student.
To make these projects successful, we are requesting a Cricut Explore cutting machine, tools, and essential crafting supplies like card stock, construction paper, yarn, and straws. The Cricut cutting machine will make it possible for us to cut flowers and leaves out of card stock. These materials will allow students to create vibrant flowers and leaves for the lei, while also learning valuable crafting skills.
