My Project
Gifting these books to my students is just a straight-up fun way to get my students to read after school. Owning their own book is a big deal! In the front of each book, I give them a personal invite and challenge to bring reading home to their younger siblings and families. I have a handful of ML students who need graphic novels packed with visuals to help grow their vocabulary and teach them basic playground language. These books help them become familiar with the English language while not even realizing they are learning.
My goal is simple, get students to enjoy reading, boost their confidence so that they can learn the skills necessary that will help them assimilate in the community.
My students are special because they are in my care. I am responsible for their learning. I am trying to provide for a handful of them unique perspectives to American culture and for all of them a fun, learning environment. My students are creative, energetic and will be writing a ton in my class. So an emphasis on reading will help them do this. My students are special because they're not just learning to read with books like Diary of a Wimpy Kid, they are connecting to stories, laughing at characters, and building confidence as they grow. Their ability to engage with fun themes is what makes learning fun and inviting.
