This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I believe that all students are special and deserving of a good education.

My students are eager to learn.

They come from different backgrounds and needs, such as English learners and special needs. They struggle every day trying to overcome basic needs. They live in one of the poorest neighborhoods of our city. These students and their families are unfortunately at-risk to high crime, poverty, homelessness, unemployment, poor health, poor fitness and poor nutrition, patiently waiting for them outside of the school gates.

My Project

Did you know that germs can thrive up to forty-eight hours on some surfaces? Students will catch about eight colds a year. Imagine how many days they will lose due to the common cold alone. With so many students in one classroom sharing school supplies, it's no wonder that the classroom can be a breeding ground for cold and flu germs.

The cleaning and sanitizing supplies will help keep the classroom clean, will create a healthy environment, and most important will keep the students healthy.

My students will use these supplies daily to wash and sanitize their hands, clean their work areas and develop healthy, clean habits. Students will be able to clean desks, chairs and materials they use with the disinfecting wipes and the spray. The broom and mop will be used to maintain the classroom spotless and welcoming. The soap and towels will be use in the students' restroom. I will create lessons about healthy practices to teach students healthy habits. These supplies will reduce the germs in the classroom which will reduce how frequently students get sick and miss school, increasing attendance and allowing students to learn.

My school’s attendance for the 2015-2016 school year was under 90%, affecting the student achievement. This project will allow my students to increase their attendance, stay healthy and increase their academic skills.
