Help me give my students and staff members the safest environment to work/learn in as we transition into 100% in-person learning during this global pandemic in a city where the metrics are not at safe enough to return.
FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Fiore's classroom raised $981

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I work in an urban high school where the majority of students live below the poverty line.
I have served in this district as a special education teacher for 21 years and happily continue to do so.
Teaching is my passion, my calling and I could not imagine doing anything else in this world.
My present classroom contains 10 significant intellectually disabled students, ages 16-19, of varying functioning levels. 80% of my students are MLL’s ( Multilingual Learners) and 10% is non-verbal.
Due to the differing abilities of my students preparing them to enter the adult world as independent as they can be is high priority.
My Project
Governor Gina Raimondo announced on August 31st that all cities and towns now have the green light to send students back to school for 100% in-person learning, except for, you guessed it, Providence. In a city where the COVID metrics are not safe to send students back to school at 100%, my students, staff, and myself included, are heading back to 100%, in-person learning on September 14th.
My school, was built in 1936 with out a ventilation system.
When asked about proper ventilation and COVID-19, stakeholders shrugged it off as they knew it would be a monumental, very expensive task to install ventilation systems in many of the older schools. Open windows they said, teach outside in tents they said.... well that's all fine and dandy until winter comes and we cannot go outside to teach or open windows for ventilation due to frigid temperatures. My students are the most vulnerable population in the school both academically and medically. So, that's when I decided I would take my students and staff members safety into my own hands.
If funded, the two air purifiers will be used at each end of the classroom to assist in maintaining a steady stream of clean air circulating throughout the classroom and potentially help with the spread of COVID-19. The filters will be changed monthly or as directed.
The UV wand will be used to remove germs from smaller items such as chrome books, pencil boxes, door knobs, desks etc...
The larger UV lamp will be used at the conclusion of everyday to rid the classroom of germs on a larger scale.
