Help me give my students the opportunity to expand their culinary experience by running a boba tea business through my Culinary Basics classes.

My Project

My future chefs are in 9th-12th grades and come from a large urban area. 42.4% of our juniors and seniors are enrolled in a Careertech course, which includes my four culinary classes. While in my class, students earn their food handler's permit. This permit allows them to work in the food industry locally for the next three years.

Cooking is a universal skill, so whether my students already know how to cook or have never stepped foot in a kitchen, all provide a unique and different take to cooking.

This brings so much to my culinary program, leading to continuous enrollment increases. This brings the need for more kitchen equipment.

To support our weekly bake sales that supplement class funding and promote future enrollment in Culinary Basics, I am requesting equipment and supplies for making boba teas. Students will use the requested items to learn to properly make boba teas, to cook boba properly, to use a drink sealing machine, and to run a small business. There are numerous ways to make boba tea; through experimentation, the students will work together to determine the best recipes. Once they have mastered boba tea making, they will begin selling the drinks. These drinks will be sold to faculty and staff throughout the week and to students once a week.

Students will learn how to fulfill made-to-order drinks as well as premade drinks. With this turning into a business, students will learn how to take orders, give change, keep track of inventory, and price out ingredients to determine the selling price. In the end, the look on the students’ faces will say it all when they get to present their wonderfully flavored boba teas to students, faculty, and staff.
