My Students
My students are a diverse group of kids from the East NY section of Brooklyn growing up in low income families. My students have chosen the fully remote platform for school this year. Many of the students come from local shelters and need extra LOVE CARE & SUPPORT at school. My students are creative, thoughtful innovative and full of questions! They absolutely love hands-on, active, engaging projects and challenges that allow them to think outside the box to find solutions! They come to school each day ready to try new things and take brave chances in order to grow both personally and academically. Truly, they are my inspiration!
Every child in my classroom absolutely loves learning, and my students are becoming enthusiastic learners.
In the classroom we incorporate a variety of learning strategies, group work, and alternative seating and learning options to ensure that each student's needs are met, right where they are!
They are truly an incredible group, and I am so lucky and thankful to have a new group of learners that are excited and ready to learn each year!
My Project
My students are fully remote and are not able to socialize and share like they have been in the past. This school year for them is very unique and one that will be very memorable. As their teacher my goal is to build their Social Emotional Learning which is needed the most because of everything that has happened around them in 2020. I want to engage them in ways that will open new opportunities for them to learn through ways they have not done so before.
One of those ways is spreading love and kindness through positive quotes and messages.
Encouraging kindness and resiliency during difficult times will help promote a positive environment in our virtual classroom and school. Each morning I start the day with positive affirmations. My students need to have that positive reinforcement to help them achieve in school.
This "Circuit Maker" and accompanying tools will allow students to design and share their positive affirmations as part of a community service project to promote social and emotional learning to bring change through small acts of kindness. Students will also receive personalized gifts for the holidays and motivational gifts from the teacher for excelling in the remote learning platform.
