My Students
You know you've got a fun classroom when you and your students sing part of the Mickey Mouse March as your attention getting signal! My classroom focuses on instilling a love for learning as well as an understanding of the magic of imagination.
My 25 little Imagineers love our Disney themed classroom and often refer to it as Disneyland.
I teach a group of fun loving, creative, and caring students who exhibit perseverance on a daily basis. Our school has an open-space concept, meaning that while we do have separate classrooms, they are all joined by a hallway at the back and we have no classroom doors (it's a hard one to explain!). Learning in open-space allows the students to develop a stronger sense of community because other students, teachers, and the principal are always within reach. My class loves to share things from home with each other, donate odds and ends to our class store, share their ideas about their learning, and just be together. Their hearts and minds amaze me daily.
My Project
While flexible seating does wonders when it comes to student buy-in and autonomy, there are still times during our school day where having more structure allows us to more easily engage with each other up close and personal.
I love seeing my Imagineers work where they feel most comfortable, but during my direct instruction, it is most helpful to have them right up front and in a space they can call their own.
A Place For Everyone Classroom Carpets do just that! This carpet will allow me to assign a square to each student, maximizing transition time and minimizing distractions because students will no longer need to race to sit by their friends, save spots, etc. Assigned squares will also strengthen student involvement during direct instruction with set partnerships. Having partnerships that remain steady throughout a unit build trust between students and thus, promote risk taking in their writing and sharing.
