Sports - Teaching Teamwork and Character!

My students need a playground ball, a flag football set, some four square balls, chalk, a binder, and throw-down bases.

I teach 4th grade at a Title I school that is located in South Louisiana. I have wonderful students in my class who love to learn. My school is very dynamic and all of our fourth grade teachers work together to make one-on-one and tactile learning possible for our students. 4th grade is a high stakes testing year and my students work extremely hard all day preparing for the LEAP test. They look forward to recess but we have nothing for them to play with. As a result, many of the students fight because there is nothing constructive for them to do. I am requesting playground balls, a flag football set, and some four square balls. I also am requesting kickballs and bases to play kickball, which is a game they love to play at P.E. I bought a football and some jump ropes so they will be ready to go when this proposal gets funded. This proposal would go very far in teaching them positive social skills, team work, and character. My students have dreams of college and understand that an education is their way to success. I strive to build relationships with my parents so they know that I will mentor their children throughout their lives, not just in 4th grade. I love my students and it is important to me that they succeed not only in 4th grade, but in life. In the last 4 years I have spent over $4000 of my own money buying uniforms, shoes, eyeglasses, and other things that my students need. I try to care for each child as I would my own children. This grant would go far in helping the children learn. Thank you so much for your kind consideration of my request.
