My Project

This fall, help us bring some frightful fun into our new classroom by setting the stage with spook-tacular Halloween decor! Our students work hard designing and building theatrical productions, and a festive, themed space would add a whole new level of excitement and creativity to their daily experience.

Through this project, my students will come to understand what it feels like for those children to be left out of traditions that others take for granted.

They’ll see the world through those kids’ eyes, recognizing how it feels to not have candy, costumes, or a place to celebrate, and they’ll use that understanding to create an event where everyone feels welcome.

The Fall Festival will also teach my students how to act on that understanding by working to alleviate others’ suffering in a meaningful way. This festival will engage approximately 80 children who will be from other classrooms and settings and we will rotate throughout the day. They’ll plan and run activities, prepare decorations, and welcome neighborhood children with treats and games—all of which will help provide a fun, safe, and inclusive experience for kids who might otherwise go without. This hands-on experience will show them that their efforts, no matter how small, can bring happiness to others and ease their struggles.

After the event, my students will reflect on what they learned through writing and discussion. They’ll share how it felt to step into someone else’s shoes, how their actions made a difference, and how they can continue to show compassion in the future. This project gives them the chance to truly understand and practice both parts of compassion: seeing others’ needs and helping to meet them.
