Spooky Slip Casting - A Differentiated Approach to Ceramics
Help me give my students the opportunity to mentor others through slip casting! Students learn to slip cast and partner with a Special Education class to mentor them in the slip casting process from start to finish.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My lovely students are high school juniors and seniors that are learning the fundamentals of ceramics. During this course, they explore this by working with clay through a range of projects using basic handbuilding techniques. Being able to offer this course provides students with the much needed tactile, mental, and emotional break that comes from being a high schooler who transitions from one academic class to the next.
This slip casting project is intended to be inclusive, in fact, no prior experience with clay is needed to make these works spooky of art.
It is because of this little fact that this project is incredibly inclusive. Right next door to our ceramics classroom, we have a small class of Special Education students. Once my ceramics students have slip cast their own works of art and mastered the process, we will invite the Special Education students into our room. With the mentorship and guidance of a ceramic student, the Special Education students will complete a project from start to finish.
I have purchased both vintage pumpkin slip cast molds and a ghost so that students can turn them into their very own lantern just in time for a Halloween party.
