Help me give my students functioning aquariums in our Aquatics classroom. We need filters, pumps, and water treatments. I will provide live fish as soon as we acheive a safe and stable environment for them to thrive in.

My Project

Aquatic Science NEEDS Aquariums.

Through Aquatic Science we learn about how humans impact the world's water and the organisms that live in it.

The aquarium plays a huge impact in that. The students are able to learn responsibility while also studying fish anatomy, nutrient cycles, community interactions and so much more!

The students participate in tank set up, water changes and water tests. They learn to keep track and analyze the data collected from the water tests. The students also learn about the interaction of dependent and independent variables. We also use these tanks as a focal point in the classroom as we reinforce previously learned concepts such as pollution, environmental challenges, food webs and the nitrogen cycle.

I already have a tank for each class, we're just missing all of the supporting pieces that help the tank function, such as; filters, filter media, heaters, air pumps, water tests, and water treatment. I will personally purchase and pick up the fish, plants, snails, and other living organisms when the tanks are filled, balanced and functional.

My students are disadvantaged. Our school is seated in a low-income, under-served community. Although my students are excited about the aquariums, there is a limit of what I can ask of them, as well as what they can give. The cost of this operation solely falls on my shoulders.
