This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students love to be at school. They are curious about the world around them, and they enjoy exploring every part of that world. I would love to give them a glimpse of extraordinary possibilities for their future selves through their interactions with water.
Your donation to this project will offer students several water play systems and single pieces that can work alone or in combination to create venues where STEM learning can take place as a part of the play experience.
The water activity tubs will create learning centers where students can begin to ask and answer essential questions about scientific and mathematical concepts, such as volume and weight. How much water do you think could fit in this bucket? Can we measure it? What do you think will happen if we drop this heavy object into the bucket? The water droppers, water whisks, and water play kit will give students the opportunity to compare water flow and explore the properties of water, colors, and color mixing. The water blocks provide lessons on physics and engineering, and the waterway pipe builders, a gravity-driven system of channels and basins, demonstrate the mechanics of water flow and diversion.
The common denominator in all these play elements is that they give children the opportunity to learn by doing. Far into the future, some of these children playing cheerfully in water may become architects, engineers, builders, and computer scientists, and your donation to this project will play a big role in introducing them to these concepts.
