I currently teach a self-contained class in a Title I school. Funding is very limited and so are the materials. Many are English Language Learners; many are special education, and most (approximately 90%) qualify for free or reduced lunch. These students come to school excited for learning and love to get their hands on anything that will help increase their learning. Many of these students go home to houses with little to no updated technology. All students are reading 2 years below grade level. Beyond these odds, my students work hard to achieve a level one status and are fabulous human beings. These students are excited to learn and absolutely love learning
Phonics Books: These will provide my students with engaging stories that emphasize sound patterns, helping them connect letters with sounds in a meaningful context.
Flashcards: Flashcards will be essential for daily practice, allowing students to reinforce their understanding of letter sounds and blends through repetition and active learning.
Whiteboards and Markers: These will enable interactive learning, giving students a hands-on way to practice writing letters and forming words, making abstract concepts more concrete.
Bright Paper naturally draws attention, making activities more engaging for students. This can help sustain their interest during lessons. Improved Focus: Bright paper can make learning materials stand out, helping students focus on the content. This is particularly useful for young learners who may be easily distracted. Visual Differentiation: Using different colors for different activities or types of content can help students visually differentiate between tasks.
My goal is to ensure that every student builds a strong foundation in phonics, enabling them to become confident and fluent readers. By providing these resources, I aim to create a learning environment where students feel supported and equipped to tackle the challenges of reading.
