I'm blessed to work at a special education center school for students in grades K-12. Our amazing program is located in Michigan. We serve students with a wide variety of psychiatric, cognitive, and behavioral needs. We serve students from the entire city of Detroit. Our school has thirty-seven beautiful young people with varying strengths and weaknesses. Their backgrounds are as diverse as their abilities.
We are all unique, but we are definitely a family here.
My Project
Our school is a very special place! Our students are high energy and unique, and they love physical education class and the opportunity to burn off some extra energy! In addition, due to the special needs of our students, they often come to the gym for "extra time" to utilize the space for a break or maybe even a time out. Our gymnasium and physical education classrooms are most certainly multi-purpose!
As with so many schools, our dreams are bigger than our dollars stretch.
This year, we are dreaming of a comprehensive indoor spinning program where we can offer students the option of a stationary bike, indoors. These bikes will then be able to be taken off the stationary base, and ridden around the neighborhood, if weather permits. For this project, we are asking for six stationary bike bases.
This program will not only help improve the physical fitness of our students, it will also have a significant impact on their behavior and mental health, as many studies have shown that exercise improves both. We appreciate your support for this multi-faceted project. Thank you!
