My Project
Clay, clay, clay! Everybody loves clay, Everybody gets excited for clay! Adding the selected resources will allow for the expansion of the ceramics program at our school. It will foster independence and exploration while also opening the door for additional materials exposure beyond clay.
Adding 2 Skutt Red Classic Pottery Wheels and stools will expand learning opportunities and provide a unique clay experience beyond hand building that is exciting for all students from general education classes to adaptive art .
Upgrading to the Skutt Lid Lifter mechanism on the kiln will allow for students to take an active role in the loading and unloading process of the kiln, allowing them to take ownership of their entire creative, clay/ceramic experience from construction to completion. The current lid of the kiln is often too heavy for most students to be able to lift independently and poses a potential risk slamming slamming down and causing damage to the kiln lid and sides but more importantly a potential risk of bodily harm for anyone using the kiln. This upgrade will eliminate potential damage to an expensive piece of equipment and allow for ease of use and access, under supervision of course, for all students interested in the ceramic process from start finish.
Upgrading the to Skutt KilnMaster Touchscreen Controller panel will allow fool poof programming for firing ceramic projects but also opens the door for adding glass fusing to a curriculum focused on materials exploration, looking to encourage and inspire students to experience art as more than just a hobby but a viable career path through a variety of different media.
Upgrading the kilns is taking a budget friendly and sustainable approach to expanding the independence and exploration of students.
