Spin, Balance, & Muscular Endurance, Oh My!

Help me give my students 8 spooner boards. Students will be able to challenge their balance, spin, and work on some tricks that improve muscular endurance.

My Students

This is my first year teaching at our school. I already feel like I am at home. Our students and staff create a culture of high expectations with care and respect. Every day I am greeted by happy students eager to learn and wanting to be challenged.

As a teacher, it is incredible to walk into a school where students are excited to learn.

My students play a variety of sports and/or participate in many physical activities outside of school. I want to challenge my students to try new sports, fitness challenges, and lifelong activities that will encourage physical literacy for life. I want my students to grow up with the knowledge, skills, and love for being healthy and a lifelong mover.

My Project

Students need to improve their balance, muscular endurance, and vestibular input system. Year two of the pandemic, I have noticed a decline in students spatial awareness, basic fitness levels, and desire to want play/exercise. Students have spent a lot of time on computers and sitting indoors. We are now back in school and have opportunities to challenge students and create an atmosphere of play/exercise for enjoyment.

Spooner Boards are a fun way to challenge my students balance, vestibular system, and improve muscular endurance.

Students can spin, jump, balance, twist, duck walk, plank twist, and rock on a spooner board. It feels like being on a skateboard that you can spin, twist, and rock on. Students will be able to use these in my calm down corner, during station days, and while focusing on what we are learning. It will be great to see students excited to work on their muscles and vestibular input.
