Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our students come from a low-income/high poverty school district, right next to Chicago. Even with our situation, our students (and staff) make the most of every opportunity we can both in the classroom and with extra curricular activities.
My students are incredibly creative, lively, and fun to teach and coach!
We are in a conference of 12 schools from the Western suburbs. Half of the teams in our league feature "club" players who play year round. Last year we had 67 girls tryout for the 8th grade team alone! I take pride in coaching our beginners and my kids do their best to improve each and every year!
My Project
My girls volleyball team needs some new equipment to help improve their skills this season. The school we attend is a Title 1 school located just outside of Chicago.
My student athletes are looking to improve their athleticism, skills, and school pride through volleyball.
We haven't started our season yet, but we mostly spend our time learning basic drills, proper techniques, while preparing them for competitive play. For most of our students, volleyball is their only extracurricular activity.
Volleyball also gives them life skills that they may not have acquired at this point in life such as teamwork and perseverance. The girls are eager to learn more each and every day. With the supplies provided by this grant, my students will improve their volleyball skills and give my athletes a chance to better themselves at a sport they have grown to love.
