My students come from a diverse array of cultural, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds. They are pregnant or parenting teens who want to finish their education and learn how to be a wonderful parent.
I want my students to gather the skills and resources necessary to be successful as a parent and as a student.
Teens with adult responsibilities need support and understanding to have success in school. We offer a calm atmosphere where the student can bring their child and learn the skills to be job market ready or be prepared to further their education.
A parenting teen does not understand how their schedule will change and they need a class schedule that can work with their parenting schedule. Through the chaos of new parenthood, I want to support my students to prepare them for life after high school.
My Project
My students are learning how to become good parents, good students and also how to take care of themselves in a healthy manner. Many of their friends may be eating fast food or snacking at the local mini-mart, so I need to teach my students how to make healthy, inexpensive and tasty meals for themselves and their child.
In the classroom, the students will learn that cooking is fun and that having a variety of spices increases their options when cooking.
We will cook, eat and clean-up together as a community of learners and parents.
