Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
As a New York City Department of Education teacher in the Bronx, I have witnessed my students of all ages, year after year, facing several obstacles that occur both in and out of the school environment. Even though they are faced with many obstacles at such an early age, my students try their best to overcome their hardships with a positive mindset. They arrive at school every morning with motivation and eagerness. They then leave with a strong sense of gratitude because of the education and opportunity that they have received.
I work in a large, Title I school with a very high population of either low income-high poverty residents or English Language Learners.
In the majority of cases, it is both. It is my goal to uplift my students in several aspects, which include their mental, emotional, social, and academic state.
My Project
My group of students looks forward each day to independent reading. It is their favorite part of the day as they get lost in their books. Every student book that is placed in my library is treated with love and care, and they are thankful for the opportunities to read. During the past few weeks, I have watched my students come back from the school library with some of the titles I am requesting.
For this project, I am asking for several series which include Judy Moody, Bad Kitty, Ricky Ricottta's Might Robot, Captain Underpants, and Katie Kazoo.
In addition, I am asking for a complete 3rd classic library set which includes 52 books! These books will definitely spice up our classroom library!
