Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
As an ESL teacher of 20 kindergarten students I have a hard time getting my children interested in reading.
I teach a classroom of 25 students at a Title 1 school with 80% of its students receiving free and reduced lunch.
Most of my students qualify for free breakfast and lunch. They come without pencils, or paper, or folders, but thankfully, they come. Their little shirts aren't always clean, but their faces beam, and their eyes glow with the desire to be noticed and appreciated.
My Project
My students look forward to coming to school because it is a place they can go to use their creativity and expand their minds. Unfortunately, many of them do not have books. The only time they are able to learn to read is at school. The materials I need will help encourage my students to read. They won't even know they're learning. Books that are on the children's reading level will give them the confidence they need to read. The books that will go in the library will also be read aloud to them as a group. This will help them be familiar with the books before reading them independently.
Please help not only improve the reading skills of my students, but help my students understand the pleasures of reading a book!
Please help my children get a library makeover. Thank you in advance for helping my students.
