Help me give my students a Sphero Edu Robot to foster creativity through discovery and play, all while laying the foundation for computer science using an iPad.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are diligent, and adventurous students. My 18 students work hard and never give up. They strive for success and their hard work is evident. The majority of my students are from low income families and have limited learning resources. My students are all unique individuals that come together to make our class work. Their hard work and willingness to collaborate and share their educational experiences is amazing.
My students face multiple challenges on a daily basis, and our classroom is a safe environment where they can learn, and be successful.
I want ensure that I am pushing them to meet their academic potential by providing them with the necessary tools and resources. They are English language learners that may need more resources and access to technology. I want them to meet their academic potential despite the obstacles they face on a daily basis. Not only do I want to provide a safe learning environment but also an environment where they will be successful in the future.
My Project
My students have limited experiences with technology integration in the classroom. It is very difficult to utilize the vast array of digital apps and platforms when 18 students have to share an outdated tablet and are confined to 2 desktops.
Teaching robotics and technology can increase my student's ability to be creative and innovative thinkers.
A Sphero Robot and an iPad would provide many opportunities for my students who need different ways to learn. I have students with special needs, such as learning disabilities, ADHD, and Dyslexia. Technology such as this can help me engage them at their individual levels. It will allow all my students to collaborate, communicate, and think critically. Students can learn to use the Sphero Robot and iPad to code during reading, math, and science instruction. Currently, we have one outdated iPad for 18 students. Students have to take turns to use the iPad when I try to integrate technology during a lesson. Some applications cannot be downloaded because it is outdated. We also have 2 desktops that do not allow students to move around the room. These desktops do not have the technology to scan codes, take pictures, video, and be mobile.
My students' learning and creativity can be enhanced if they are given this opportunity. They are always eager to learn and grow. Please help my students find success and display growth by providing them with more technology in our classroom.
