Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are such special kids. This grade in particular has a very hyperactive personality and so anything that engages them physically helps the lessons to go smoothly. They love to share stories about their families and friends and they are truly kind and working hard to be respectful to those around them each day.
My students are a passionate, funny and creative groups and need to be moving all of the time!
They work hard to do their best and are lucky enough to have a great support system at home to help them to do well in school and out of school.
My students work together as a team and are working on taking the lead in small groups and making goals for themselves to learn more and more each day.
My Project
Using Sphero in my second grade classroom will be a doorway to the technology world of coding and programming. This project will allow my students to collaborate and work together to problem solve and stretch their creativity. This robot will not only make learning fun, but it will also challenge the students who get bored with the everyday class work because it simply clicks easily for them.
Sphero allows kids to incorporate technology into art, reading, writing and math and to have hands on experience in the classroom.
This will give them a new way to measure and estimate lengths, create pictures based not the instructions they create. It will also give them the opportunity to present the project they created and work on using technology responsibly.
As they work through elementary they will gain more and more responsibility to use technology and how to use it appropriately and this will be a starting point for my young second graders. Coding and programming devices like Sphero is what our kids will be doing in the future when they enter into a career. Programming and coding is starting at younger ages than ever before and if we want our students to be prepared for their career, then the time to start is now.
