I'm a fourth grade lead teacher in an urban charter school. Most our our students are considered "Title 1". Our school is based upon the head start model of instruction where most of the instruction is to be child centered and hands on. Our schools budget is very small so I need all the help I can get in order for my students to be successful learners.
My class is an inclusion class and most of my students are working below grade level. As teachers we need to be creative and always on our feet and ready to go. I am very artistic and creative, so I always make my own posters or teaching aids. The only problem with that is that each year they either get ruined or ripped because they are not laminated. My school does not have a laminating machine and laminating everything myself is getting to be too expansive.
All my students are different kind of learners. Half of my students are hands on learners and the other half are visual learners. So I'm always handing out both manipulatives and pictures or poster which help my students be more successful.
To be able to laminate my student's work and share it with them and their families to show their growth would be awesome.
A laminating machine would allow me to create activities to share with my students and their families. It would help close the gap that often falls between home and school. This machine would also allow me to create multiple activities that other wise would be financially impossible to afford with my small budget. Having a laminating machine on the spot would be priceless.
It is important that you understand how amazing it is that there are people like yourself that are willing to donate and help teachers create a better future. Every wish that is fulfilled through this program helps to improve the quality of education that children are able to receive. If my children and I are lucky enough to have our wish fulfilled, it will not only effect the quality of education that they receive but allow their parents to learn along with them at home.
