This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our school is located in Huntington Park, California. My classroom supports students with moderate to severe autism and I currently have 7 students. The individual needs of our students vary greatly so it is important to have materials and activities that engage all of them. Many of our students are also English language learners and non-verbal. They learn best through the use of pictures, manipulatives, and kinesthetic activities. My students enjoy hands on materials and are eager to explore new objects.
My Project
Having these materials would introduce my students to important STEM related skills. These materials are hands on and perfectly accessible for my students with special needs. The color sorting games, building, and sequencing activities will help support my students in the areas of math, engineering, and life skills by providing practice for following directions. The large timer and organization tray will make it easy for the students to know when to transition to the next activity and where to store their work when they complete it. These materials will give my students an amazing opportunity to dive into math, science and engineering in a fun and exciting way.
