My Students
My students are K-6th grade students with a variety of disabilities. They each have specific needs for learning and for functioning within the traditional classroom. Multisensory reading programs have proven highly effective for intervening in students with a reading disability. The special education program contains many sensory tools to support coping skills and self-management to support students with anxiety and emotional disability. Students rely heavily on technology tools to access academic content.
My Project
Students need a way to create writing passages through alternate means. With the headphones with a microphone, they can use speech-to-text technology to get their ideas down in a more efficient manner. Students can also access text-to-speech technology to provide a way to interact with many areas of the curriculum. Students also use dry erase markers to help with math calculations and strategies. Students in my class also have access to a break and sensory area to help regulate emotions and handle sensory input needs. The magna tiles have been such a hit with our entire campus, we are needing to create more kits to support more students during social skills groups.
