My students need an iPad for speech-to-text for taking notes and being able to be self-sufficient and empowered.

My Students
My class of 14 students serves a wide range of disabilities, including intellectual disabilities, emotional disturbance, autism spectrum disorder, and specific learning disabilities. I currently teach all classes on the ACCESS Points based on the Common Core Standards. As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. The opportunity and achievement gaps are apparent among our student population. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to advance their knowledge of the Internet and also to provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences.
My Project
Having the iPad will allow for differentiated instruction for a special student in need of speech to text. Let me explain. This student has a Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) as to where he is limited to performing such tasks as taking notes, writing an essay, and being able to interact with a computer appropriately as his peers. The iPad would allow him to have a device of his own with speech-to-text capabilities to increase his "ability for independence" rather than always relying on his peers, my assistants, or myself. He would be empowered. This student would be able to write effectively within the realms of my classroom as well in his electives.
More than a third of students from low‑income households
