These tools will help teach my students proper tongue placement especially for the /r/ productions because of the tongue movements that are required. Visual pictures of the proper tongue placements is not enough and this may be what my students need.
I work with students at a public school who come every week to speech therapy using the traditional speech methods that I was taught in school.
They work hard at trying to find the wrong tongue placement by listening to verbal description or by looking at a picture or using a tongue depressor... this may be just what I need to get these sounds produced better and faster.
My Project
Using the therapy tools I'm requesting, my students will learn how to articulate sounds better by learning correct placement of their tongue and by practicing sounds in words using the speech buddy to help with tongue placement. They will get the tactile feedback and finally understand what their tongue needs to do say the sound.
It will help my students to say sounds better which will improve their self-esteem, reduce the amount of time spent on speech therapy and help them to be better understood by others.
