My Students
As a speech teacher, I work directly with over 45 students who are working towards improving their speech and language skills. These children range from Kindergarten to fifth grade levels and have a diverse range of special needs. My students are working on a variety of goals targeting their articulation, expressive and receptive language, fluency, social skills, etc. They require many resources that the school is not able to provide. Many of my students come from low socioeconomic backgrounds and may not have access to a variety of resources outside of school. Through this project, I hope to gather therapy materials that will help me improve my students' speech and language skills through engaging and fun therapy sessions.
My Project
As a new Speech Therapist fresh out of graduate school, I am in the process of gathering a variety of therapy materials to best help my students. Language-facilitating activities such as games and interactive toys are wonderful ways to motivate my students and get them talking. My students are in K-5th grade therefore, I can use everything from a car ramp to higher level board games. Since the majority of my sessions are groups, fun games such as Pop the Pig keep keep them engaged. These resources also keep them motivated during difficult tasks. I look forward to planning therapy sessions with these fun new materials!
