My Students
My students all have mild to severe speech and language or learning disabilities. They are some of the most interesting and hard working children I have ever met, as they are all battling many barriers. Some of these challenges include not having resources to buy many learning materials, and now, working on their skills in the virtual world.
These children are incredible for all of the many unique gifts they bring to our school.
They may work harder than typical children to make meaningful friendships due to social-emotional differences or some struggle to convey even their simplest messages because of phonological disorders. I believe that with a deeper, richer library of books, covering many topics and concepts, they could benefit and achieve even more than they already do!
My Project
I am requesting an iPad so that I can access excellent apps for my therapy sessions. There is a lot of high quality, fun, and stimulating information accessible only by using apps. Some of these include ABC Ya, Epic, and Toca Boca. Language goals are targeted such as story retell and expressive language skills including vocabulary and grammar.
Our students need motivating and interesting tools to learn effectively.
They want to be successful, and they need support to make progress. In addition, the data collection on many apps helps facilitate my record keeping, as a therapist.
