Help me give my students with special needs in 6th to 8th grade the opportunity to plant seeds in raised beds instead of water bottles to support in reading, writing, math, and science using Project Based Instruction.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I love how my students arrive in their first of three years in my classroom embracing the Growth Mindset strategies the I provide to them. They go from saying I can’t’ and it’s too hard, to saying it’s okay, I just have not learned it yet. I know that they are embracing it because their parents share that they are using the same words at home.
My students thrive when provided hands on concrete learning.
Participating in creating with their hands motivates them to complete associated academic tasks which are generally very challenging for them. To date every student has thrived in our plant based gardening lessons.
Additionally, these provide opportunities to work with general education peers, which supports the development of their social skills. It is a win win situation and they love all things gardening.
Your support will assist in making their education applicable in every area of their lives.
