My Project
I serve an amazing group of first and second grade students. All of my students have a speech and/or language need and are served under the categories of Autism, Specific Learning Disability, Other Health Impaired, and/or Speech-Language Impaired. My sweet students are working hard in the therapy setting to improve their language and communication skills.

COVID-19 and the pandemic have greatly affected the speech and language skills of our students and their ability to communicate effectively in the classroom setting. More kids than ever are presenting with communication skills that are below age and developmental expectations. I'm requesting The Little Spot Emotions series as it can be utilized in the therapy setting with my students to help them understand and communicate their feelings in a positive manner. I have included a variety of items to reinforce fine motor skills such as fun pens/pencils for writing tasks, scissors, finger paint, Play-Doh, Mental Building Blox, Sensory Balls and Kinetic Sand. As my students use and manipulate these items in therapy they are strengthening their fine motor skills. This correlates so closely with articulation as it is a fine motor skill as well. I have also included in my request items to encourage good language and pragmatic skills. Feed the Woozle, Stone Soup, Meeting Chips, Conversation Dice, and Taco Cat Goat Cheese are games that will be used to increase and encourage the language and pragmatic aspects of communication. Flex setting will allow for movement while keeping my students engaged and in their space as we move from the table to the floor. Children learn best through play and keeping therapy fun and engaging will allow us to target our goals and improve communication.
