My students need new and fun hands on materials so that they will be engaged in the science classroom.

My Students
Earth science can be boring and not very fun if you do not have the right resources to make it engaging. These resources will be very useful when learning about moon phases, landforms, and volcanoes. I know with these resources, my students will gain a love for Earth Science.
My students attend a very small school in rural Arkansas.
We are in the twelfth poorest county in the United States according to Together for Hope. We have an excellent school, where the teachers care tremendously about our students, however we do not have a lot of extra money to purchase extra science supplies that are needed in our classrooms for experiments and labs. A majority of the students I teach have free and reduced lunch and breakfast. Science is put on the back burner pretty much up to fifth grade because it is not tested until fifth grade, therefore my students do not have a lot of experience with science labs and experiments. My students do not have access to hands on science materials, which they need to be able to master the skills that they are required to learn.
My Project
The moon phase calendars are so fun. The students will be able to look at the moon each night over a four week period and see how the moon changes. The model of the moon phases will give students a visual of how the moon changes which will help them have a better understanding when they do their moon calendars. The landform models will help students understand faulting and folding which can be difficult to learn if you cannot actually see it through models. The models will be a great resource. The sedimentation kit will give students an understanding of how sedimentation forms. Once again, it is hard for students to understand if they cannot see real life examples. The books are going to be great to get the students interested in volcanoes and earthquakes. The gloves are a necessity because I already have cow eye balls and owl pellets that the students will be dissecting.
Please help us with purchasing these materials for our classroom.
I am so excited to teach science this year and would like for my students to have an enjoyable and memorable time in science that they can talk about for years to come. These materials will help my students master the science skills that are required for fifth graders in Arkansas which in return will lead to higher test scores.
