Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

This year, I am teaching Advanced Placement, Honors, and College Prep Biology. I am also advising the Eco Mindfulness and Garden Clubs. My students care about the environment, gardens, and campus beautification.

My biology students need preserved rats, frogs, and grasshoppers for their comparative anatomy unit.

We do a unit on physiology and anatomy. My students need the preserved specimens to learn about the different morphological features of various animals. This will also go well with our evolution unit because many different species are related, even though they may not look alike initially. They will also learn how different body systems work with 3 different specimens.

We also need Swiffer pad refills to clean up after each dissection. In each lab group, there will be a clean-up leader, and that person will be responsible for tidying up their group's sink and table, which also includes the floor in their designated areas, because fluids tend to get all over the floor during clean-up. This will help ensure lab safety, and the students will also learn about taking ownership of their learning space and being responsible.
