Quality art supplies are important and the paper students use for painting and collage projects matters. I want my students to have the opportunity to be exposed to diverse papers that are artist quality.
Our school was impacted by Hurricane Sandy.
We lost power for over a week and did not attend school. When we returned on November 5th, we did not have heat for another week. Despite this, my students are eager, bright, and talented and really enjoy studio art class, which meets for the entire school year every other day. I see over 275 students a week and we go through a lot of supplies throughout the year, especially paper! Students build a strong art foundation in grades 6 and 7 and learn a variety of techniques in drawing, painting, and sculpture, as well as experiment with tools and learn about art history and cultures.
My Project
These resources will improve the quality of our projects and give students more options and expose them to materials. The watercolor paper is for a painting projects in grade 7 and I am always looking for affordable, quality paper, which makes a difference to the outcome of watercolor paintings and want to try this brand. The tagboard paper is a great paper for all kinds of media and everyday sketching. The specialty/decorative papers are great for our abstract collage project in grade 7 that explores the principles of design using all kinds of papers and textures to create a dynamic work of art.
Funding this project will allow students to have quality paper supplies to use in different units throughout the year in studio art.
Budgets are tight in public education, especially for the arts and class sizes are at an all time high with up to 33 students in a class. Supporting my classes helps bring needed and expensive supplies to my students.
